I’ll never forget that one time I was talking to this boy and I rejected him (mind you I almost gave him my address because we were supposed to go out) and he stalked and harassed me for an entire month and put my number on Craigslist (I was getting hundreds of calls and texts every day to the point my phone stopped working).

I had one throw a water bottle at me for ignoring him as I walked down the street. I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter on my way to a doctors appointment. The bottle missed me.
He’s lucky I was pregnant. I pulled my box cutter out on a dude one night on the train when I used to work nights a few years back. I scare myself sometimes because I’m gonna kill somebody one day.
I always carry my knife with me just because dudes love to act stupid so I’m prepared to cut they ass accordingly :)

As someone with limited strength and physical mobility, but who can press a button pretty easily, I recommend personal keychain alarms that are set to make a VERY loud noise (140db–about the same noise level as a chainsaw). They’re about $8 a piece usually, but you can buy 3 for 16 and split them among your family and friends. If it doesn’t startle and deter the harasser/attacker, it’ll definitely get someone’s attention.
I usually end up taking most my classes in evening so I can go straight to work after. For a year or so I never carried anything with me. When the security guard at my job found out he was livid. He went and got me mace and a little pocket knife.
Within the last year I’ve had a guy follow me in the parking garage when ain’t no other cars there.
I’ve had guys waiting outside my job and no one is there to walk me to my car at 3am.
Strap up ladies cause these men do note care how scary they are, they don’t care that they intimidate you into talking to you.
But also ladies RESEARCH THE LAWS OF YOUR STATE/CITY, cause some of the things you buy may get you arrested & possibly charged; even in self defence. For example: It’s illegal in NY state to carry and use a taser or possess a knife longer than a certain length. This is also very important, shitty to find out but important.

most of those knives are illegal in nz :((( the single legal weapon is a plain manual pocket knife or multitool that is undisguised, and the blade is less than 10cm and single edged. and even then, you’re still likely to get in trouble due to “equivalent force” laws that assume male and female unarmed strength and size is equal.
Similarly, in Canada, any weapon that can be concealed as a non-weapon is illegal. Pepper spray for self-defense is also illegal, but dog and bear spray are not, so that’s probably your best bet!
Get yourself a celtic pocket knife. It has a sheath and handle that show it is a knife and it’s a short (less than 3in) blade on it. Mine has a cord that goes around your neck so it can be worn as a necklace.
Stay safe ladies. I’m plus sized and the cord is also big enough to wrap around my waist and tie it off

There is a company called “Vector” that sends out “work opportunity” letters in the mail for graduating seniors. It’s a scam. They promise a nice $17 an hour for zero experience which should be a red flag. It’s a multi level marketing scheme that preys on kids trying to make money for college and it’s gross. If you get one of these letters in the mail, just toss it in the recycle. Some of you may have heard of this or have already received one of these in the mail, but I just wanted to post about it just in case!
they did this shit to me too but they had no information about the company anywhere on the flyers and the website for applying was just a google form which should have been a red flag but basically they wait until you fill out the google form and then reveal that they are Vector Marketing. their scheme is they make you buy like $100+ worth of knives and tell you to sell them all to your family members in exchange for a cut of the profit. i ignored them once i found out but they started like sending flyers to my mom somehow
here’s a list of similar multilevel marketing scams! notable ones are itworks, amway, lularoe, herbalife, scentsy, younique, monat, beachbody, mary kay, and more. you might even see some of your peers advertising for them on facebook or instagram, but always remember to google the companies’ income disclosure statements. you’ll quickly find a solid 95% or so make no money from these schemes at all, and about 90% actually lose money. be careful y’all!

Gonna add on to this:
From the other side of the bar, I see this crap all the time. Seriously. I work at a high-density bar, and let me tell you, I have anywhere from 10-20 guys every night come up and tell me to, “serve her a stronger drink, I’m trying to get lucky tonight, know what I mean?” usually accompanied with a wink and a gesture at a girl who, in my experience, is going to go from mildly buzzed to definitively hammered if I keep serving her. Now, I like to think I’m a responsible bartender, so I usually tell guys like that to piss off, and, if I can, try to tell the girl’s more sober friends that they need to keep an eye on her.
But everyone- just so you know, most of the time, when someone you don’t know is buying you a drink, they’re NOT doing it out of a sense of cordiality, they’re buying you a drink for the sole purpose of making you let your guard down. So:
Tips for getting drinks-
1. ALWAYS GO TO THE BAR TO GET YOUR OWN DRINK, DO NOT LET STRANGERS CARRY YOUR DRINKS. This is an opportune time for dropping something into your cocktail, and you’re none the wiser.
2.IF YOU ORDER SOMETHING NON-ALCOHOLIC, I promise you, the bartender doesn’t give two shits that you’re not drinking cocktails with your friends, and often, totally understands that you don’t want to let your guard down around strangers. Usually, you can just tell the bartender that you’d like something light, and that’s a big clue to us that you’re uncomfortable with whomever you’re standing next to. Again, we see this all the time.
3. If you’re in a position to where you feel uncomfortable not ordering alcohol:
Here’s a list of light liquors, and mixers that won’t get you drunk, and will still look like an actual cocktail:
X-rated + sprite = easy to drink, sweet, and 12% alcoholic content. Not strong at all, usually runs $6-$8, depending on your state.
Amaretto + sour= sweet, not strong, 26%.
Peach Schnapps+ ginger ale= tastes like mellow butterscotch, 24%.
Melon liquor (Midori, in most bars) + soda water = not overly sweet, 21%
Coffee liquor (Kahlua) +soda = not super sweet, 20%.
